London

The second day in UK, I still couldn't reach Andy.... can seem to get his Cell phone to work. So... decided to do London by myself today. Basic plan.... take the bus to the Airport, jump on the Tube.... ( almost identical to the T in Boston but with softer seats ) and head into London. I was going to take the Piccadily line into Piccadily Circus, start walking from there to the National Gallery, spend some time there, walk from there to the Parliament building, over Westminster Bridge, check out the Aquarium then jump back on the Tube and go home.... like I said... that was the plan.

What actually happened. I got to Piccadily Circus OK, found the Gallery, and proceded to walk among the greatest collection of Art that I have seen in my life. I guess my only regret or disapointment is that the collection contained no Contemporary art.... but consisted of pieces from the 1400's till around the 1800's. Some of the artists featured were Michael Angelo, Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso, Leonardo de Vinci and many many more. I checked out a Audio CD tour of the gallery that let you enter the number of the room or the piece that you were looking at and it gave you about a 3-5 minute discusion. This audio accompaniment was great. They informed me that it is available at a few museums in Holland as well which I am really looking forward too. Needles to say, I looked down at my watch to my horror that 5 hours had already gone by and I hadn't even seen half of the museum..... guess I'll have to come back next year.

So now it is already 6:00..... what to do about seeing the rest of London. I thought.... legs are sore, would feel great to sit down for a while... walked out of the museum and the perfect idea struck me. Get on one of those double deckers and drive around the city and have a guide show me all the hotspots. Brilliant idea....my legs quickly thanked me.

The bus was open on top and I was only wearing a sweat shirt. For walking around this was perfect. For sitting on the roof of a bus flying around London.... I quickly got a chill. For those of you that don't know me that well.... getting a chill is rare. Glenn will attest to this cause he has scuba dove with me when the water was 42 degrees.....

After the bus ride. I started to walk around downtown London to find some place to eat. I found a charming little place to have a bit to eat. The food was superb and the service was excelent. I quickly discovered..... the food services at the hotel were way below par.

Another Tube ride and a Bus ride and I was back in the Hotel ready for sleep.
